One Sentence Sermon:
Actively Compassionate People are Supremely Blessed by God.
This week Pastor Tom talks about Mercy and Compassion. He shows us what the bible says about having compassion for others, and how Jesus was moved to compassion during his ministry. What work can you do for Jesus today? Who can you show active compassion to?
Bible Verses:
Matthew 5:7
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Mark 6:34
34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
Matthew 9:36
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 14:14
14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Matthew 15:32
32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.”
Matthew 9:13
13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Psalm 86:15
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

1 Blessed are those who have regard for the weak;
the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.
John 18:10
10 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)
Luke 22:50-51
50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
