Happy New You | Week 2 | I Will Experiment…

In Week 2 of “Happy New You,” Pastor Tom Golden shared how experimenting with our faith can lead to profound spiritual growth and a deeper connection with God. Drawing from Proverbs 29:18, Judges 6:37, and John 6:67, Pastor Tom explained that the journey to becoming the “happy new you” involves trying new ways to grow spiritually, even if it feels uncomfortable or unfamiliar at first.

The key word of the message was experiment—defined as an act or operation aimed at discovering the unknown. Pastor Tom encouraged us to explore the Bible with purpose, researching scriptures about specific areas like wisdom, faith, or purpose, and to find creative ways to engage with God. He reminded us that God’s definition of happiness is about those who follow His guidance and find joy in His favor.

Through the story of Gideon, we saw a powerful example of experimenting with faith. When God called Gideon to lead Israel, Gideon hesitated, doubting both himself and God’s presence. He tested God’s promise with a fleece, and though Gideon was unsure, he took small steps of faith that ultimately led to a great victory. Like Gideon, we’re reminded that even when we doubt or feel inadequate, God calls us to trust Him and take one step at a time.

Pastor Tom also shared a personal story about attending a monster truck show—initially excited, but when experiencing the event firsthand, his enthusiasm grew tenfold. He likened this to our walk with God: hearing about Him is one thing, but experiencing His power and presence personally brings overwhelming joy and excitement.

Finally, Pastor Tom shared an inspiring example from John Muir, the Father of National Parks. Muir wasn’t content to be a mere spectator of nature—he climbed a Douglas Spur tree during a storm to experience its power up close. Similarly, we are called to step out of the spectator’s seat in our spiritual lives and actively seek God’s will, even in the storms.

This week’s message challenges us to embrace faith as an adventure. By experimenting with prayer, Bible study, and daily trust, we can take steps toward becoming the “happy new you” God intends. It’s not about having all the answers—it’s about letting God lead us, one step at a time, toward victory and joy.

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Judges 6:37
37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”

John 6:67
67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.
