In his sermon, Pastor Tom Golden asked the pivotal question, “Can Jesus really do the impossible?” resoundingly answering, “YES!” He emphasized that while Jesus may not perform miracles like sending you a $100 bill or making you win the lottery, He is deeply concerned with transforming your inner self. Drawing from stories in the Bible, Pastor Tom illustrated that Jesus can genuinely do the impossible in our lives.
He recounted the story of the rich man seeking eternal life, who was challenged by Jesus to give up his possessions and follow Him, underscoring the importance of inner sacrifice and faith. Reflecting on Mark 8, where Jesus healed a blind man in stages, Pastor Tom reminded us that even when it feels like the world is spitting in our face, Jesus is persistently working on our behalf.
A moving example was shared about Dr. Samuel Weinstein, a nephrologist on a mission trip who saved an 8-year-old boy by giving his own rare blood during a critical heart surgery. This story highlighted how God can use us to do the impossible, demonstrating that Jesus will never leave us and will always come through, just as He has in the past.
Luke 1:37
37 For no word from God will ever fail.”
Philippians 4:13
13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Matthew 19:26
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Mark 8:22-26
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.”
