Stand, Still. | Wk 2

Pastor Tom continued the Stand Still series, teaching us that in a world constantly pulling us in different directions, it’s difficult to be still. 1 Peter 5:8-11 reminds us that the devil is looking for someone to devour, but we must resist him and stand firm. Matthew 11:28-30 invites us to find rest in Jesus.

Standing still doesn’t mean doing nothing—it means waiting, resting, and being established in faith. The enemy wants to keep us anxious and always moving, making us feel like we don’t know enough or need to act immediately. But sometimes, the best thing we can do is wait on God.

Pastor Tom illustrated this with a story about his printer. When it wasn’t working, he wanted to react in frustration, but after restarting his computer, everything fell into place. Sometimes, we just need to reset.

He also shared the story of Alex Honnold, a rock climber who conquered El Capitan without ropes. Scientists scanned his brain and found that his fear center barely responded. He had trained himself to remain calm in the face of fear.

Finally, Tom reminded us of Simon of Cyrene, the man who helped Jesus carry His cross. Simon stood up for Jesus when He couldn’t carry it anymore—and Jesus will stand up for you, too.

1 Peter 5:8-11

8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
