Decisions Vs Commitments

This week’s message explored the powerful difference between making a decision and living out a commitment—especially in our walk with Christ.

Pastor Tom opened with an engaging visual demonstration featuring Kobe, highlighting that while a decision is simply making up your mind, a commitment requires loyalty and dedication—even resistance and sacrifice. It’s easy to decide to do something when there’s no resistance. But when opposition shows up—as it always does in our faith—the real question is: are you committed?

We were reminded that the enemy is all in—committed to distracting and discouraging you—because he has nothing to lose. Meanwhile, many of us make spiritual decisions without ever stepping into real commitment.

Looking at Matthew 19, we reflected on the rich young ruler—a man who followed the commandments but hesitated when Jesus called him to give everything and follow Him. He had made decisions for a good life, but not a full commitment to Christ. Jesus pointed out that “only God is good,” teaching that goodness alone isn’t enough—God calls us to holiness and surrender.

We were challenged to recognize that everything we have already belongs to God. True commitment to Christ means laying it all down, and in doing so, trusting that He will return to us far more than we gave up.

Pastor Tom closed with a powerful story from February 18, 1952. During a brutal storm, Coast Guard officer Bernie Webber chose to head into dangerous waters to save the lives of stranded sailors. Despite warnings and the risk, he was committed—and his legacy is that he saved lives. That’s the kind of commitment Jesus has for us. He is all in—committed to saving, healing, and finding us wherever we are.

Jesus isn’t just looking for a decision. He’s looking for people who are committed to Him, just as He is fully committed to us.

Matthew 16:26
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
