Jesus never promised an easy life, but He did promise that He has already overcome the struggles we face. Before saying these words, He told His disciples that He was leaving to be with God. But even in His absence, He assured them they wouldn’t be alone—the Holy Spirit would come, allowing everyone to experience God’s presence.

The jungle we face in life isn’t just external; the real battle happens on the inside. What people see on the outside is nothing compared to the struggles we carry within. Throughout Scripture, people faced both literal and spiritual battles—Eve in the garden, David against wild animals, Noah enduring the flood, and Paul facing shipwreck and danger at every turn.

Pastor Tom shared the story from Acts 27, where Paul, a prisoner on a ship bound for Rome, helped those around him survive a brutal storm. Against all odds, they made it to shore safely, only for Paul to be bitten by a poisonous snake as soon as they arrived. It’s a jungle out there! Every step Paul took seemed to lead him in the wrong direction, but he kept going. No matter how unpredictable or dangerous life seemed, God was always leading him through.

Tom then showed a picture of the Daintree Jungle in Australia—a place packed with spiders, snakes, and nearly 90% of the world’s bat species. Yet, despite its overwhelming nature, the Daintree only covers 1.2% of Australia. The enemy wants to keep us feeling trapped in the jungle, surrounded by fear and uncertainty, but in reality, it’s just a small part of our journey. Jesus stands with us in the jungle, ready to lead us through.

Pastor Tom closed with two powerful stories from Mt. Everest. In 2006, a climber named David attempted to reach the summit faster than anyone before. He went alone, without a guide, and while he succeeded in reaching the top quickly, he lost consciousness on the way down. Tragically, 40 people walked past him, focused on their own goals, and he died on the mountain.

In contrast, another climber, Lincoln Hall, also reached the summit but fell ill on his descent. His guide initially left him behind to save the rest of the group and even informed his family that he had died. But 14 hours later, another group of climbers passed by and found him alive, sitting on a rock with one glove off and a smile on his face. Instead of leaving him behind, they helped him down the mountain to safety.

The difference? One man tried to navigate the journey alone, while the other had people who saw him, stopped, and helped him through. Life is full of hardships, but Jesus never leaves us to face them alone. No matter how lost or overwhelmed we feel, He is standing in the jungle with us, leading us every step of the way.

John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Acts 27:43 – “But the centurion, wanting to spare Paul’s life, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.”
